Understanding Over Drilling
Traditional education frequently rushes to worksheets and formula memorization. At MathPillar, students investigate the "why" before the "how"—dissecting Euclidean axioms, exploring algebraic symmetries, and proving statements from first principles.
The Power of the Chalkboard
Online split-screens cannot replicate the energy of face-to-face mathematical dialogue. In our physical academy classrooms capped at 6–10 students, children write their derivations on the whiteboard, receive live feedback, and inspire each other.

Sefa Ozkan
Lead Mathematics Instructor & Founder
Sefa Ozkan is an experienced mathematics educator with a strong background in teaching Algebra, middle school mathematics, and advanced math courses. He currently teaches Algebra at Stratford Preparatory School, where he also leads the AMC 8 Math Club and helps students develop their problem-solving and mathematical reasoning skills. Before joining Stratford Preparatory School, Sefa taught middle school mathematics at the Russian School of Mathematics, where he coached MathCounts and worked closely with students preparing for mathematics competitions. He also has experience teaching Algebra and advanced mathematics at Alpha Public Schools and creating engaging, critical-thinking-focused lessons at Bay Area Technology School. In addition to his classroom experience, Sefa is the Founder and Coordinator of First Bricks Online Academy, an international online education platform serving students from diverse backgrounds. Through this work, he has coordinated online classes, developed curricula, and worked with a global network of students and educators.
Hacer Embel
Mathematics Instructor
Mathematics education and Pedagogy
Hacer Embel is a dedicated mathematics educator with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics and a Minor in Education from the University of Washington–Bothell. She is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Mathematics Education and Pedagogy. Hacer brings extensive experience teaching mathematics across elementary, middle school, and high school levels. She has taught Pre-Calculus, Integrated Math 3, Consumer Math, and advanced problem-solving mathematics, and has worked with programs including Art of Problem Solving (AoPS), Mathnasium, and Singapore Math.
Seyma Halbutoglu
Mathematics Instructor
Mathematics and design double major
Mathematics & Design double major from UC Davis with a strong background in education. Assisted math classes and volunteered in math circles throughout college. Math tutor since 2015. Alphastar instructor since 2016. Experienced in assistant teaching and substituting for math classes.

All MathPillar Academy courses are held 100% in-person at our physical learning facility. Designed purposefully for distraction-free focus, lively chalkboard problem solving, and small cohort collaboration.
